‘Seoul's best medical institution’ that practices respect for human love
SoonChunHyang University Seoul Hospital
SoonChunHyang University Seoul Hospital was opened in 1974 with the love of human beings, respect for humanity with the spirit of SoonChunHayng, to build a hometown village that embraces the will of heaven under the diligence, service, and research. It is the first Korea Medical Corporation.
Founder Dr. Hyang-seol, Seo Seokjo Ph.D. (1921-1999), is the leader who laid the foundation for the development of neuroscience in Korea and is one of Korea's leading medical professionals. In 1946, he graduated from the Department of Medicine of the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, was an internal medicine assistant at Seoul National University until 1949, completed his internship and medical major at Cornell University, and majored in Neurology at the University of New York at Bellevue Hospital. Afterwards, he established SoonChunHyang General Hospital in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu after going through Yonsei University, Catholic University, Korea Hospital, and Paik Hospital.
At the time, other university hospitals and general hospitals were astound at the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. The hospital led the advancement and modernization of domestic hospitals. The medical staff also gained the best reputation in Korea, as the hospital hired reputable doctors who were head professors at other university hospitals.
Afterwards, SoonChunHyang founded Dongeun Institute, a school corporation in 1978, four years after its opening, and established Korea's first medical college as a doctor. SoonChunHyang Medical College was established in Sinchang-eup, Asan-si, Chungnam, and has been promoted to a comprehensive university in 1990.
In 1979, SoonChunHyang University Gumi Hospital was opened, followed by SoonChunHyang University Cheonan Hospital in 1982. In 2001, SoonChunHyang University Bucheon Hospital with advanced medical facilities and equipment was opened. Currently, it has grown to become one of the best medical institutions in Korea, with 3,000 beds of four hospitals under SoonChunHyang University Medical Center.
SoonChunHyang University Seoul Hospital currently operates 730 beds in 32 departments, and more than 1,800 faculty members, including 200 professional professors, are doing their best for patient care, research, and education.
In recent years, the hospital has utilized government policies such as expanding the nursing care integration service ward, leading participation in the new comprehensive hand-made pilot project, and establishing a patient safety system, to promote growth and development.
The nursing care integration service enhances the satisfaction of employees as well as patients and their caregivers, because the proper personnel intensively manage patients. Introduced and operated in August 2018, the new comprehensive water treatment system has been receiving favorable responses by greatly reducing the burden on patients.
In July 2018, the company established a safe hospital culture by being selected as a best place for fire safety management, incorporating firefighting training, disaster response training, patient safety leadership rounding, and patient recognition systems.
In the certification evaluation of medical institutions, we are getting excellent results every time, and in 2018, the Ministry of Health and Welfare's regional emergency medical institutions evaluation proved high-quality medical services, ranking first in Seoul and second in nationwide.
In 2018, in the medical quality assessment organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, we received the first grade for three consecutive years. It is ranked 12th among the 322 organizations evaluated, including the Advanced General Hospital.
Although SoonChunHyang University Seoul Hospital is not big, through participating in leading government policies and through innovative efforts, we have continuously grown and developed. Both the patients and staff satisfied, continue to grow together, and with the spirit of 'Go Higher' we are being reborn as the best and a strong hospital.
